AMONGST the many honours handed out last Wednesday at a presentation night held by the ladies branch of Moyola Park Golf Club,were those prizes for the annual Spring League competition.
Here, Marian Overend was the overall individual winner with a score of 117pts.Second place went to Jacqueline Evans on 109pts.In the team category,this proved very competitive throughout.It was Team B made up of M.Kyne (capt),C.McKenna,S.McMeel,B.Slowey and F.Walls who were top with 479pts.The runners up,Team E, scored 449pts, and consisted of – A.Kelly (capt),M.Leadon,M.Ferguson,B.O’Neill and P.Hutchinson.Other placings were – Team I- 442pts; Team A – 437pts ; Team F – 436pts ; Team C – 430pts;Team H – 429pts ; Team G – 429pts; and Team D -420pts. Well done to all.
There was an extremely close outcome to the B.McNally & Sons sponsored Stableford.Adam McCabe (16) was placed first by virtue of a better back nine over Stephen Murray (4) with Mark McElroy (14) in third spot.All three returned 40pts.Best gross prize goes to David Patton (4) 78, with the handicap category winners being; 0-9,John Quinn (9) 38pts ;10-13,Liam Strathern (12) 39pts ; 14-17, Mark Kelly (17) 39pts; 18 plus,Pat O’Neill (22) 37pts;Seniors – Pat Quinn (12) 38pts.There were 17 optional twos winners, each getting 4 golf balls.In a Sunday Sweep Stableford,the result reads – 1st,John J.O’Neill (13) 42pts ; 2nd,Niall Kelly (23) 41pts; 3rd,Thomas Doyle (13) 40pts;4th,Adam McCabe (16) 39pts. Some four members win 7 golf balls apiece for their twos entry. And, the first Thursday 9 Hole Stableford has been won by Jack O’Neill (6) 21pts,with Noel McMullan (10) placed second on 19pts.
Interest remains high in the Monday Seniors (over 50s) Open Stablefords.Latest results here are ; 1st,D.McGurk (27) 44pts; 2nd, G.O’Connell (14) 41pts ; 3rd,J.Wright (23) 39pts; 4th, T.McFlynn (13) 38pts. There were 3 optional twos winners, each getting 9 golf balls. And, 1st – M.Kelly (19) 43pts ; 2nd,W.Smith (15) 40pts; 3rd,S.Tennyson (28) 39pts. Sole twos winners here was A.Leacock who picks up 18 golf balls.
Congratulations in order to the Moyola ladies Challenge Cup team who have defeated City of Derry in the 1st round of the Inter Club Championships. Averill, 1pt. A “playaway” has been planned for Friday,7th June. Venue is Clandeboye Ava Course, and those travelling will leave Moyola Park at 9.45am sharp. Saturday brings the Niall Evans Stableford to the Castledawson course.Play off white tees,this event also counts towards the golfer of the year. Sunday sees a Team Event Stableford, while Monday continues the Seniors (over 50s) Open Stablefords. Next Wednesday, May 29, the ladies will play in the Burns Trophy & Young At Heart (over 60s) 18 Hole Stableford.Entry here is £3 with £1 for optional twos.It is hoped to hold a 9 Hole Competition each Thursday until September 5.
This will be non- qualifying for male members and you can play all day on Thursday, except when there is an open event.Cards should be purchased from the pro shop at £2 each and must be entered into the computer.Junior golf coaching has now commenced at the Castledawson course.This will be held on Saturdays 1.30pm to 3pm for girls only, and then 3pm to 4.30pm for boys and girls. Cost is £25 per six weeks or £5 per week.Places in each are limited and have to be reserved.Contact Tony for further details.
