THE MID Ulster Snooker League sponsored by Hayes Fuels held its annual pre-season meeting last Sunday night in the St Patrick’s club and after a few hours the handicaps and league cup groups had been resolved.

After a long drawn out affair everyone was in agreement with the handicaps and it is hoped that these revised handicaps will result in a close finish for the league title. The Mid Ulster league are pleased to announce that Hayes Fuels has renewed its sponsorship and will once again be the main sponsor of the Mid Ulster league.

The league cup draw as usual threw up a group of death as last season’s winners St Pat’s B were paired with club mates St Pat’s A, Longfield and Johnny’s.

A strong case can be made for each of the teams involved but the defending champions would be marginal favourites.

The second group involved the two new teams in this years competition as Mark Doherty has assembled a team in the Swatragh area and last years league champions Paul McGuckin, Peter Reilly and Mickey Quinn have moved to the Pot Black club in Cookstown.

St Pat’s C and St Kevin’s with increased handicaps will fancy their chances of causing an upset although it would be a brave man to bet against Pot Black making the league cup final.

St Kevin’s stalwart Kevin Murray was delighted to be drawn in Group B as he feels his team is well placed for a first ever final “I have to admit, I was discombobulated with other teams complaints at the handicap process but you find that teams aren’t happy unless they win. It is important to remember why we play the game, the enjoyment is the key” claimed Murray.

Meanwhile, the St Patrick’s Cup will be held in Magherafelt on Sunday 6th and 13th November and will no doubt once again attract some of the top players from all over Northern Ireland. Last years champion Paul Lenfesty from Hillsborough will try to defend his title but there will no shortage of challengers.

Closing date for entries is Sunday 30th October at 6pm.

Entrance Fee is £15 and the competition is open to all players, if you wish to take part in this competition then get in touch with any St Patrick’s Snooker club member as soon as possible.
