WELL done to 14 handicapper G.O’Connell who, with a better back nine,won the latest Seniors (over 50s) Open Stableford held at the Moyola Park Course in Castledawson.
His return of 43pts was matched by the runner up, W.Greer (19) and also M.McSwiggan (19), a countback also needed to seperate this duo.There were 8 optional twos winners, each getting 3 golf balls.
A previous Seniors competition brought the following outcome – 1st, F.Smith (25) 44pts; 2nd,O.Downey (15) 40pts (on better back nine); 3rd, R.Francis (27) 40pts. Here, 6 players win 5 golf balls apiece for their twos entry.
Sweep Stablefords continue each weekend at the local course. First official competition of the new season to be held by the ladies branch at Moyola Park, has been won by Marie Wilson. A score of 33pts secured top place in the Vivo Xtra 18 Hole Sweep Stableford. Runner up on the day was Fiona Glass, 27pts. Meanwhile, the draw has been made for the Watterson Cup matchplay competition. Annual Captain’s Drive In will see the official start of the new season on Saturday April 14. An entry sheet is now available at the bar and the fee of £9 must be paid on registering your name. It is pointed out, that Winter handicaps will remain until this Captains Drive In competition.Monday continues the Seniors (over 50s) Open Stablefords while the ladies will play in the Four Seasons 18 Hole Sweep (draw) Stableford next Wednesday, 11th April.
Entry here is £3 and £1 for optional twos while a timesheet is available in the pro shop. And,names are now being taken for the “ladies galavant” which is on Saturday April 21, venue being Lough Erne. If anyone is interested, sign the sheet provided while a £50 deposit must be paid by March 28. The trip will include golf, evening meal and overnight stay at the five star Lough Erne Resort.
Also, the ladies branch hope to run a monthly 18 Hole Sweep on Saturdays for a trial basis this year. Tee off is 3pm to 3.15pm and these cards will qualify for Lady Captains Day but not count towards player of the year points. A maximum of 24 places will be available on each day, and in order to retain this slot,at least 12 players are needed. You may go out in eight three balls or six four balls and anyone interested, should sign the sheet posted on the noticeboard.
Finally, the recently launched club lotto is beginning to grow in popularity. The draw numbers for Sunday April 1 were – 6,16,19 and 21. The jackpot was not won and now stands at £750 while £25 winners were Sarah Martin and Louise McKenna. Next draw takes place on Sunday.
