THE first Open Competition got underway on Thursday 17th May. Generously sponsored by McAleer and Rushe the 3 Ball Ladies Scramble was well supported despite terrible weather conditions. Visiting clubs included Moyola Park and Castlerock.

At the prize giving Lady Captain, Frances McKenna welcomed everyone and thanked all who had helped the day run smoothly.

Lady Captain Frances extended a warm welcome and sincere thanks to Mrs Mary Laverty, representing McAleer and Rushe, who presented the prizes.

Congratulations to all the winners on the day. Castlerock ladies Pamela Telford, Yvonne Mitchell and Hilary Mullan won the competition with a fabulous Nett 64.17. Runners up were Killymoon girls Heather Campbell, Margaret Henderson and Kathryn Kerr with Nett 65 whilst Nuala Henry, Sally Coyle and Anne O’Neill from Moyola Park came third with 65.5 Nett.

On 26th April the Darren Clarke MS Charity Stableford Competition was won by our Lady Captain Frances McKenna with 37 points. Sandra Lamont was runner-up with 36 points on a better back nine from Martha Currie. Clare Thornton won the front nine with 20 points and Noreen Sheehy won the back nine with 19 points on a better last 6 from Sharon Gallagher. Lady Captain Frances qualifies to play at Dungannon Golf Club in October this year.

The Mary Peter’s Trust Stableford Competition was played on 3rd May. Sheila Doonan won the competition with 38 points on a better back nine from Noreen Sheehy. Noreen Sheehy took runner-up prize. Front nine was won by Sandra Lamont with 19 points with back nine going to Kathy Farrell with 21 points. Sheila will represent the Club at the regional finals accompanied by our Lady Captain.

Mairead Heron won the Courier Cup Stroke Competition played on 10th May with a Nett 76 on a better back nine from Diane McIvor and Carmel Hagan. Diane McIvor was runner-up on a better back nine from Carmel Hagan. With 34.5 Nett Carmel won the front nine whilst Gemma Heron took the back nine with 38 Nett.

Unfortunately despite sterling efforts from captains and players alike the Junior Cup and Junior Foursomes teams have been defeated. Well done to the Challenge Cup team under the guidance of Kay Simpson who will play Letterkenny in the second round of the competition having beat Portadown.

Anne Nugent won the Ladies and Gents Open Stableford Competition on 2nd May with 43 points whilst Kathy Farrell took runner-up prize in the Ladies and Gents Open Stableford Competition on the 16th May with 37 points, well done to you both. Congratulations to Sharon Gallagher, Lesley McLaughlin and Tracy Moore who have qualified to play in the 2012 Ladies Irish Open Club Challenge in Slieve Russell Golf Club on 6th June.

The Rose Downey and Sloan Cup club competitions are underway second rounds to be played by 17th June.

Lady Captain’s Day on Saturday 9th June is fast approaching ladies are reminded that to qualify three competition cards must be returned.

Presentation night will be held on Thursday 31st May at 9.30pm.

The next Open Competition which is the Johanna Rosebowl will be played on Thursday 14th June. We look forward to a good turnout on the day.
