Sperrin round off winter season

THE Lough Fea 10 mile race on Saturday marked the end of another successful winter season for the Sperrin Harriers Winter League.

Cool, favourable conditions were welcomed by over 80 athletes from all over the country.

Aidan O’Hagan was 1st Harrier home with 61.00, Pierce McCullough 61.05, Diarmuid O’Kane 61.48, Gavin Corey 63.01, Fergal Mulgrew 64.45, Jarlath O’Neill 66.01, Alan Shaw 67.40, Marty McDermott 67.57, Adrian Devlin 68.10, Alastair Ferguson 68.31, Paul McLaughlin 68.49, Mark Reid 69.02, Colm Gallagher 70.23, Gary Coleman 70.47, Marty McGirr 71.04, Gavin Whylie 71.10, Dean Corey 71.30, Tommy Harraghy 72.00, Richard Smith 72.24, Stephen Kerr 72.25, Martin Loughran 72.38, Phillip Owens 74.16, Cheryl Cardwell 75.26, Tairleah Gourley 75.31, Barry O’Neill 78.55, Barry Loughran 79.04, Rosemary Hargan 79.21, Ciara Mullin 83.16, John Knocker 83.39, Hannah Su 84.51, Graeme Orr 85.17, Shauna Young 87.00, Bernadette McNally 1.43.14 and Maureen Mallon 1.51.42.

The overall Winter League winners are Female 1st Anne Paul, City off Derry, 2nd Patricia Campbell Omagh Harriers, 3rd Rosemary Hargan Sperrin Harriers; O/45 Patricia Campbell Omagh Harriers, Maureen Mallon Sperrin Harriers; O/50 Anne Paul City of Derry, Rosemary Hargan, Sperrin Harriers; O/55 Bernadette McNally Sperrin Harriers.

ALEXANDER WINS AT CARLINGFORD

Thirteen Sperrin Harriers made the trip to Carlingford on Saturday for the start of the 2013 half marathon season. The scenic 13.1 mile route took in Cooley Peninsula with dramatic views of the Mourne Mountains. The cool and dry weather provided the 600 strong athletes with perfect conditions for the race. The race started from Carlingford village at 10.30am.

Karen Alexander was first overall lady to break tape with 1.22.28, Next harrier was Gareth Cardwell with 1.25.59 and third was Connor Martin with 1.26.37. The rest of the harriers times are as follows - Oli Murphy 1.35.39, Doc Martin and Martin Donaghy both finished together with 1.36.37, Chippy O’Neill 1.39.11, Darren Warnock 1.39.48, Russell Bell 1.44.12, Joanne Bell 1.46.06, Michael McCrory 1.52.00, Deirdre Conway 1.59.49 and newest Sperrin Harrier Steve Morrison who ran his 1st ever race finished with a respectable 2.05.03. Well done harriers!

MAGHERAFELT 5 MILE ROAD RACE

Sperrin Harriers will host their annual 5 mile road race on Saturday April 13... Just 6 weeks away! The club extend thanks to Sportique, Magherafelt for sponsoring the race for the 3rd year. Registration will open at 11am in order for the race to start at 12noon. A great turnout is expected. After the race has finished, the prize ceremony for the Winter league will take place at the Meadowbank Sports Arena.

Training continues at Meadow Bank Sports Arena on Monday at 6.45pm and Wednesday at 7.30pm and also in Cookstown at Loughry College Campus at 6.30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Beginners and new members are always welcome as we cater for all abilities.
