On Sunday 8 September, Spires Cycle Club Magherafelt will host their Sportive Cycle event in aid of Cancer Focus NI.
Proving to be highly popular last year, the event’s first year were 200+ riders entered, we expect 2013’s event to be even bigger and better with some exciting changes and improvements being made
Cyclists now have the choice of 3 routes (20 mile; 38 mile; 50 mile) which all start and finish in Meadowbank Sports Arena.
The event is perfect for those who are new to the cycle sportive scene as well as the more experienced cyclists.
All three routes visit Lough Neagh at Ballyronan then turns south along the shoreline as far as Ardboe.
This year we have a 20 mile route which runs with the others almost to Ardboe, this is intended to give those new to cycling a flavor of a sportive while keeping the distance short.
The 38 and 50 mile options pass through Ardboe almost to Coalisland before turning westward to Stewartstown and Cookstown. The 38 mile option then returns to Magherafelt.
Those who prefer a longer run have an opportunity to extend the route to 50 miles by heading from Cookstown to the hills and great scenery around Lough Fea before making an enjoyable easy decent down to Draperstown and back to Magherafelt.
All routes will start from Meadowbank Sports Arena Magherafelt, with a sign on and go start between 9am and 10am
Entry fee for the event is £15 and includes refreshments before and on the return to Meadowbank.
You can also pre-register with T-Shirts and goodie bag for the first 100 registered (http://www.entrycentral.com/)
A day licence costing £2 is required by riders not holding a current Cycling Ireland licence. A licence can be purchased when signing in for the event at Meadowbank.
This event will provide a great day out for cyclists of all abilities.
