SPIRES Cycle Club are running their first open charity cycle event on Sunday, September 9.
All proceeds will be going to Diabetes UK NI branch and will be spent improving the lives of people with diabetes in Northern Ireland.
This charity does invaluable work in the community assisting people to manage their diabetes effectively by providing information, advice and support also funding pioneering research into care, cure and prevention for all types of diabetes.
Cyclists have the choice of two main routes 40 mile or 76 mile.
The 40 mile circular route visits Lough Neagh and Lough Beg and is mostly on flat terrain providing a perfect entry level route for those who are new to the sportive scene. There will also be a tougher 76 mile option for the more experienced cyclist who prefers a longer more challenging route. This takes in in our three loughs: Lough Neagh, Lough Beg and Lough Fea with breath taking landscapes over the tops of the Sperrin Mountains.
Both routes will start from Meadowbank Pavilion Magherafelt with a sign on and go start between 9am and 10am, refreshments will be available both before and on the return to Meadowbank.
A back up emergency vehicle will be on hand along with a broom wagon. T-shirts will be available for the first 100 to sign on, the entry fee being £15
for Cycling Ireland members and £20 for non-members.
All cyclists must wear a helmet and have a road worthy bicycle. This event will provide a great day out for cyclists of all abilities.
