FOUR years ago, a 10K was organised in Lavey by a few people as a community event and out of that event was born the Termoneeny Running Club. This cross-community club is based in the fabulous facilities of Lavey GAC/Termoneeny Community Centre, Quarry Road, Knockloughrim, Magherafelt, BT45 8NS and has now over 40 members, 2 of which reside in the South of Ireland and are often seen sporting the Termoneeny Running Club jersey in the Wicklow Hills.

Another member, Colm Dillon, is based in London and he is missing from the photograph below of the 12 members who successfully completed the 2011 Dublin Marathon.

Since its foundation, the club has been represented at events throughout Ireland ranging from 5 and 10 mile events, half marathons and marathons.

Christian Fortes O’Neill completed 3 marathons last year (Belfast, Barcelona and Dublin) and another member Kieran Henry is now training for his 22nd Marathon.

Kieran along with fellow club member, Damian Hughes (brother of the famous Tommy Hughes an Olympian who won the Belfast marathon twice) are running the New York Marathon to raise funds for Action Cancer.

Two of the female members, Nicola Sargent and Shauna Melaugh were very successful in Sperrin Harriers 5 mile classic event held last Saturday and the club wishes to congratulate them on their performances.

Runners meet at Lavey GAC/Termoneeny Centre every Tuesday and Thursday evening at 7pm and Sunday mornings at 9am and have a variety of distances and routes to suit all ages and abilities and welcome any new runners to come along and train with them.

The club is hosting its 4th annual 10K Road Race and 5K fun run/walk on Sunday 13th May at 1:30pm with registration opening at 12 noon. Entry fee is £10 for the 10K and £5 for the fun run/walk.
