The Island Wheelers AGM will be held on Thursday 8th November, at 7.30 sharp in the Order Of Malta.
All members should try to attend as this is your opportunity to present idea’s etc that will benefit the club prior to the coming 2013 season.
In other news, on Monday 29th October 2012, Gerald McVeigh, Justin Quinn and John O’Hagan all completed one of sports toughest races, the gruelling 26 plus mile marathon in Dublin.
All three clocked fantastic times, with Justin crossing the line in 3:46:29, John in 3:47:47 and Gerry in 4:36:43. Finishing a marathon is one thing, but clocking a great time is an entirely different matter, clearly all the hard, long, training runs over the past number of months paid off, well done lads! Hopefully it won’t be too long till we see you guys back on the bike.
As the leaves turn their autumn colours and fall, the summer sun might feel like a distance memory.
With the days getting shorter and unpropitious weather looming, getting up out on your bike might seem more challenging than before. However it is also the most important time to maintain and build upon that new level of fitness that many have worked hard to achieve over the summer months.
This winter, the club have a number of different training approaches to keep you in shape for next season.
The Island Wheelers mountain biking club took off with a bang last year and has been growing ever since, especially during the cooler months with many enjoying it to a change from the road.
The mountain bikers meet every Thursday evening at 6pm for an hour or two, led by Cathal and Aidan. Typical locations include Drumcairne and Davagh. The trails are suitable for both first time mountain bikers and experienced mountain bikers and are seriously good fun!
Drop Aidan an email if you’re interested for more information at firstname.lastname@example.org. Good lights are essential for these runs. The guys also try to head out most weekends so if you fancy a change from the road bike give them a shout!
The Island Wheelers Turbo season is well under way with sessions taking place every Wednesday at 7pm in the Gortgonis Centre.
These are intense, yet a fantastic work out that is sure to make you sweat. For more information please contact James.
Aidan, Paul, and Cathal have already tackled a number of Cyclo-cross races this season and they can’t recommend them enough. If other members wants to try their hand at the fast growing cycling event on the calendar, the club has a number of Cyclo-cross bikes that can be used, just get in touch with Aidan for more information.
As well as the above, there will of course be the usual weekend spins. The Sunday club run now leaves at 10am from Coalisland with the routes posted on the clubs website on the Thursday before. The craic on these runs are not to be missed!
