Moyola anglers enjoy Donegal outing
A NUMBER of members from Moyola Angling Association enjoyed a weekends fishing at Dunfanaghy in County Donegal.
The trip once again proved a great success and gratitude is expressed to Tommy for organising the event, which went like clockwork, Seamus for getting food for the barbecue, Willie for lending his barbecue, and the ladies for providing cups of tea. Thanks to Philip and Bernie Maguire for cooking the food on both evenings and also to Moira Harkin and Willie Darragh for all their help. Indeed, there were many who offered their time and made the weekend such a memorable one.
The outing proved a productive one for Stanley Aspinall who won two and finished second in three competitions. First up was the Francis Loane Memorial Trophy, for the heaviest fish, and Stanley took top place with Sean Henry in second and third being Brian Bigmore.
The Martin O’Neill Memorial Cup was for the heaviest bag of fish and this went to Adrain McKay. Second place was secured by Stanley Aspinall , third Willie Darragh. And, the Pairs Competition continued Stanleys fine form when he partnered Ardrain McKay to success with Kenny McCracken and Jason Bateson in second.
The Meet at Regans Junior Cup was won by Jason Bateson, this being his second success of the current season so far. A close runner up here was John McKay, both juniors having two very good bags of trout.
And, the first evening competition of the season on the Moyola River, was for the McCracken Cup. Conditions were very cold for this time of year with bait being favoured over fly. On the night, 18 seniors and 4 junior members took part.
First place went to Philip Maguire, second Brian Bigmore, both using bait, and third was Stanley Aspinall, on the fly. As a result, Philip jumps to the top of the league table leader board with 32pts.Other positions now are – Tommy McGrath and Stanley Aspinall, 30pts; Joey O’Neill , 28pts ; Philip Maguire, 22pts ; Adrain McKay, 20pts ; Willie Darragh and Patsy McCann, 14pts ; Patsy Harkin, Sean Henry, and Brian Bigmore 12pts .
