FERGAL Muldrew lead 36 Sperrin Harriers home last Saturday at the Omagh Half Marathon in a new Pb time 0f 1-23-01 with most of the Harriers also having Pbs.
Over 2000 athletes, walkers and joggers decended on Omagh for their annual Half Marathon and 5K fun run and with perfect conditions for running, athletes were looking for Pbs in the race.
As the field reached the first mile top Dublin based athlete Sergiu Ciobanu, from Moldova, had already opened up a lead from last years winner Local athlete Stephen Duncan and City of Derry’s Greg Roberts and by the time the reached half way Sergiu had opened up a big lead.
Further back down the field the leading Sperrin Harrier Fergal Mulgrew was making good progress with David O’Brien, Darren Church and Julian Grimes not too far behind him and Ali Ferguson and Alvin Taylor also making good ground.
Joanne Bell the first Sperrin lady was also having a great run,
But there was no catching Sergiu Ciobanu when he crossed the line over 3 mins clear in a new course record time of 1-04-48 with Stephen Duncan 2nd in 1-08-17, Greg Roberts 3rd 1-08-18. Fergal Mulgrew had a great race to finish in 1-23-01 and there was a great battle behind for the 2nd Harrier with Darren in 1-25-41 just in front of Julian 1-25-42 and David 1-26-26, Ali 1-27-00, Alvin 1-27-56 here are all the Sperrin Harriers times.

THERE is now just over a week to go to the 2nd running of the Magherafelt 5 Mile Classic which again is sponsored by Sportique, Broad St. Magherafelt.
The race will again be based at the Meadowbank Sports Arena with registration starting at 10am with the race setting off at 12-00 sharp from the Rainey Rugby Club.

Who will be the Harriers to watch for a win in the there are a few contenders Glenn Donnelly, Christopher McPeake, Aaron Meharg, Donal Gallagher, Damian Galvin hopefully will all be running on the day while in the Vets Mel Hughes, Dermot McEllhinney, Alan Shaw, Trevor Dallas,Tommy Harraghy, Kevin Murphy, Alvin Taylor, Irwin Speirs.
While in the Ladies Karen Alexander could be a local winner also Tanya Black, Natasha Henry, Fiona Crozier, Joanne Bell, Bernie McNally will all be looking for a podium finish.
FOUR Sperrin Harriers headed to the wilds of Connemara last weekend to compete in the Marathon and Ultra Marathon on the Sunday morning.
The club had three athletes in the marathon Darren Crozier, Marty McGirr and Gary McGuckin while Oliver Murphy tackled the Ultra.
On what is described as one of the toughest races in Ireland. The three athletes in the Marathon had great runs Darren and Gary ran 3hr-40min and Marty 3hr-43min while in the Ultra Oliver “The Warrior” Murphy ran a great 7hr-30min. Well done Guys great running on such a hard course

TRAINING continues every Tuesday/Thursday at Loughry College Cookstown and Rainey Rugby Club, Magherafelt at 6-30pm and wed at 7-30 Meadowbank Sports Arena.
