Cookstown High lead the way as Go League hits halfway stage
The ‘GO’ sponsored league is now at the half way stage and the Christmas break.
The top section is as expected a two horse race with Parochial A having a slight edge over Cookstown High who have been dropping unexpected points. The picture would have been clearer but for the postponement of the Parchial / High clash due to a bereavement.
Elsewhere clubs are taking points of each but Tamlaght, St Mary’s and Kildress should avoid the dog fight at the bottom. St Mary’s, like Lafarge the previous week let victory against the High slip away. Lafarge gave themselves some breathing space with a win at Moortown while the latter heaped more pressure on Maghera Pres with an away win. Heavy defeats for Derryloran have brought them back to the danger zone.
In section 2, 4 clubs , Lisnagleer, Cookstown Par B, 1st Magherafelt and St Swithin’s Mixed are leading the way and any two could finish in the top two spots.
The national rinks have been completed and it was a night of surprise results, dominated by teh defeat of current national and British champions, Mark Wilson, Dayne Jordan, Glen Smith and Colin Hogg by Robin Clarke’s rink from Maghera Pres. Also out went the fancied rinks skipped by Colum McHugh and Alan Paul. The surprise rinks to contest the final will be those skipped by Robert Hosseini Tamlaght and Seamus McGlinchey St Joseph’s. The triples take place Thursday 20 December. The finals night has been arranged for Friday 18 January in Christ Church Castledawson.
