East Tyrone looking forward to big year

East Tyrone Cycling Club looks forward to a great 2013, with a new look to its key personnel.

Under the guise of our new chairman Ian Barnes the new committee consists of the usual suspects with a few additions; secretary, Reuben Bruce; treasurer, Brian McComb; race captain, Noel Wilson; race secretary, Darren Irwin; time trial secretary, Ivor Wilkinson; PR secretary, John Dunlop; youth development, Gerard Fox and events co-ordinator, Rod Davison.

At our club dinner, which was held in the Greenvale Hotel, December 2012, we had great pleasure in presenting a gift to our life-long member (60 years & counting) Rod Davison for his unstinting service to the club and in appreciation of his work as secretary, a position he held for many years.

We have a full and varied calendar of events which usually attract a good turn out. The most notable of these are the CicliSport on the 16th March, the Ernie Magwood Time Trial on the 21st July, the Sperrin Challenge on the 21st August and closing out the season will be the Ernie Magwood Bike & Hike on the 15th September. These events are well attended with something for every level of cyclist and we look forward to seeing you there.

We have a few new positions in the club and Ann McFarland has agreed to take on the role of lady captain. I know she will apply her enthusiasm to implementing training sessions for the female members of East Tyrone.

Alan Gilkinson is looking forward to creating a Mountain Bike group within the club, with events and tours planned throughout the year, also taking advantage of the new trails in Davagh forest.

There will be a full range of Inter Club Road Races and Time Trials which run from the beginning of April through to the end of the season in August. Some of our members had a very successful 2012, particularly Gary Jeffers and Jake Gray and we hope they continue to improve in the coming year and I know they would appreciate the wider support of the club.

For the more leisurely rider there is an extensive programme of tours and sportifs to avail from and our popular Tame Tuesdays goes from strength to strength, commencing again in April.

We hope to have a new website up and running from February which will keep you up-to-date with events, race results, news and anything remotely interesting.

Our club continues to grow with an ever increasing membership and with new groups planned to commence shortly (as already mentioned), we can look forward to another exciting and successful year in the saddle. Hope to see you all very soon.
