High School reaches semi-final stage

Cookstown High School 2 Cambridge House 0

Cookstown HS 1st XI played in the quarter final of the Senior Schools Shield against Cambridge House and had revenge over their rivals by winning through to the semis.

This was always going to be a worrying match as Cambridge House had beaten the girls on strokes in last year’s competition.

Cookstown started nervously with a few mazy runs from the Cambridge House forwards having to be dealt with by R. Millar and K. Hodgett.

After the first five minutes Cookstown started to find their momentum. A. Scott was distributing the ball well from the back finding A. Parke, J.Burns and E. McFarland who were causing the Cambridge House problems. They were creating chances and playing some excellent balls into the circle which unfortunately no one could get the final touch to.

E. Harpur had some excellent chances but the Cambridge House keeper was in top form. At half time the girls were really positive and the adrenalin was pumping. The girls entered the second half with the same positive attitude as they finished the first half.

They worked well as a team and created several chances, a well worked routine by R. Millar and C.Sloan found C. Scott who placed the ball just out of the keepers grasp and into the left hand corner.

The girls continued to work tirelessly throughout the second half creating several chances and keeping the Cambridge House keeper busy, K. Scott and J. Burns were unlucky not to get goals with two very strong strikes.

Eventually the Cookstown girls grasped another well worked goal by Erin Harpur to put the game out of Cambridge House’s reach 2-0 was the final score, putting the Cookstown girls through to the semi final.

The girls would like to thank Linda Black for umpiring and all the supporters that came and watched.

CHS: K. Hodgett, A. Scott, A. Parke (c), R. Millar, D. Hamilton, J. Burns, K. Scott, C. Sloan, E.Harpur, C. Scott, E. McFarland, S. Watt, J. Scott, L. Somerville.
