‘IMMENSE - NOW BRING ON THE BELFAST GIANTS!’

RAINEY Endowed 1st XI coach Chris Campbell was overjoyed with the tremendous performance that saw Rainey knock out Belfast giants BRA.

The Belfast side were heavy favourites going into the third round tie but Rainey showed all of their qualities as they battled to a 11-8 victory.

Campbell was quick to praise his dedicated panel for their stunning victory.

“More than anything it was the team performance that won us the game. Everybody stepped up to plate and our defence was immense from the first to the last whistle.”

Rainey soaked up some early pressure from the Belfast side and Campbell believes one key moment in the early stages of the game changed the tie.

“They made a great break through our defence early on and we were left with a one on one with our fullback Ryan Brown. Ryan made a superb tackle to deny them the try and from the next phase they knocked the ball on with the try line at their mercy. Those two phases of play changed the game.”

Campbell firmly believes that the scrum set the foundations for this terrific victory.

“We were superb in the scrum and even though we had a much smaller pack we dominated the scrum throughout. Our back row forwards were sensational as well. Their tackle count was frightening. The work rate of Booth, Dawson and Lees was phenomenal and they worked their socks off for the entire game.”

Methodist College, Belfast are next up for Rainey in the fourth round. Crucially Rainey have home advantage and Campbell firmly believes that defeating BRA will make Methody sit up and take notice of the Magherafelt outfit.

“It will be like your typical FA Cup tie between the Premier League team and a side from the Conference. We will go into the chance knowing that cup upsets happen all the time in every sport and with a large home backing anything is possible.”
