Rainey Ladies win at Annadale

Tthe Rainey RFHC 1XI team travelled to Wellington College to play against Annadale on Saturday.

The match began and both teams showed dominance at various times. Within 10 minutes Rainey player Megan Mulholland made a break with the ball making a short pass into the attacking circle which was picked up by Nicole Heaney who flicked the ball into the back of the net, making the score 1-0.

The Annadale players came back fighting and equalised the score to 1-1. Following great attacking skills displayed by Carolyn Burns in the circle, the Rainey managed to win a short corner.

This corner saw Claire Mulholland hit a reverse shot into the goal bringing the score to 2-1.

The Rainey continued to fight and due to great pressure from the midfielders Maeve McNally, Megan Mulholland and Burnsy, a crash ball was hit into the circle and was finished by an unstoppable strike on goal by Zara Bell making the score 3-1 to the Rainey by half time.

The second half saw both teams come out fighting and it was clear the Annadale players didn’t want to concede another goal. Due to great defending from the Rainey backs Catherine, Emma, Louise, Claire and goalie Rebecca Allen it was impossible for the Annadale players to score.

The Rainey forward line Bell, Heaney, Jayne Spear and Loraine Hyndman continued to put pressure on the Annadale defence but couldn’t get the ball in the back of the net.

The full time whistle blew and the score was 3-1 to the Rainey.

Goalie Rebecca Allen achieved man of the match.
