Rainey on top form with Naas on the horizon
CHRIS Campbell’s Rainey side sent a “good message” to the pack chasing them in Division 2B of the Ulster Bank League when they destroyed second place Boyne on Saturday.
His side now travel to Forenaughts in Co. Kildare to take on Naas having opened up a six point gap between themselves and the chasing cluster headed by Barnhall.
“We did pretty well in the first half and created six or seven great chances,” said coach Chris Campbell. “Unfortunately we managed to butcher them and then, to compound that, our winger made a bad mistake to let them in to score.
“The lads got a bit of a roasting at half time and were like a different team in the second period. We scored five tries and then, against 14 men and with a dominant scrum there was only going to be one winner.
“It was as capable a performance from Rainey Old Boys as we have had all year and it sends a good message to the teams that are chasing us.”
