Weather adds to poor turnout for Clady and District Angling Club AGM
The club recently held its AGM in the Hawthorn Inn, Portglenone.
Weather conditions on the night didn’t help but again attendance by local anglers was poor with many of those present travelling considerable distances.
The likelihood of changes to angling in the near future seems to have little effect on club members and the chairman appealed for greater attendance at next year’s meeting. The chairman thanked all those who attended and in address thanked all those who had contributed to the work and running of the club throughout the past year.
Special mention was made of the support of local landowners in readily granting access over their land throughout the year when new stiles and footbridges where installed along the river.
Davy Gordon presided over the election of office bearers and committee.
Outgoing chairman Francis Magill was re-elected as was the remaining office bearers and committee members.
One change was the election of Gerard Webb as competition secretary as Jack Nelson stood down after many years of successfully organising all club competitions, with the chairman thanking him for his dedication to the role and welcoming the new competition secretary.
Guest speaker on the night Robbie Marshall, from the UAF (Ulster Angling Federation), who gave an update on the federations work and answered many questions regarding the current status regarding catch and release for salmon fishing and pending legislation. For up to date information please see UAF website.
The chairman closed the meeting asking all members to support the club in the year ahead and wished them all tight lines for the 2013 season.
The annual prize giving and dinner will be held Friday 8th February in The Manor, Kilrea. Tickets are available from all committee members.
