Willie leaves Rainey coaching role
RAINEY Old Boys' coach Willie Anderson has left the club this week.
The former Ireland captain took over at Hatrick Park at the start of the season, filling the gap left by John Andrews' departure for Dungannon.
Willie had agreed to help out with the Magherafelt club in a town he now calls home.
Under 'Big Willie' Rainey had an outrstanding start to the season, beating Ballymena and Instonians in the opening matches of the Ulster League.
A horrific run of injuries prevented any real momentum from being created after Christmas.
Old Boys' Chairman Arnold McLean said he was delighted to get someone of Willie's experience to fill the gap when Andrews left.
Willie said he has enjoyed his year in charge of the Magherafelt club, working with players who wanted to change, learn and develop.
Club president Bill McGinnis and incoming President Ben Glancy expressed their gratitude to Willie for his help in ensuring the club consolodated their position and they hope to use the experiences gained under Willie as a springboard for the club to progress.
Willie himself now hopes to get involved more in journalism and commentating and specialist coaching.
We will no doubt hear more from the big man in the future.
