RAINEY were playing at home on Saturday for their second match this season. From the very first whistle it was an extremely close fought fixture between Annadale and the Rainey girls.
Christine McClure was the first to break away and to have the first chance at a goal but the Annadale goalie was quick to come off the line to close down any chance Christine had of a goal. Annadale were quick to respond to Rainey’s early surge forward: passing the ball up the pitch they pushed forward testing the Rainey’s defence. The Rainey girls fought hard but Annadale’s determination carried them on to achieve the first goal prior to the break. 1-0 to Annadale at the break.
In the second half the Rainey girls came out with high spirits and determination which resulted in Rainey dominating the second half. Louise McMaster was one of many players to challenge the Annadale defence in a second half of relentless pressure.
Louise dribbled past the Annadale’s forwards, mid fields and defence to send a ball across the goal mouth but despite a huge effort from both Nicole Heaney and Lorraine Hyndman they were unable to find the back of the net. The Rainey girls grew in confidence from this and won themselves a penalty corner. Once the ball was played, Claire Mulholland set up he sister Megan who scored an excellent goal from her reverse stick. This brought the Rainey girls right back into contention. The girls fought hard for the rest of the second half but the Annadale defence fought equally as hard with the end result after a tough game, a well-deserved 1-1 draw.
Player of the match was Louise McMaster.
