SOCCER: Upperlands on cloud nine

Portrush Reserves 1 Upperlands 9

PORTRUSH had to start the match with ten men as they didn't have enough players to field a full team and Upperlands weren't in the mood to show them any sympathy.

The dead lock was broken in the 11th minute when Workman fired the ball across the six-yard box only for a Portrush defender to put it into his own net.

Portrush didn't lie down by any means and could have pulled themselves level only for Mitchell to make two fantastic saves.

Upperlands continued to press and Mark Scott nearly sent Upperlands two up, Patterson did well down the right and his superb cross was met well by Scott, only for his header to be directed straight at the keeper.

Upperlands pressure then did pay off and they got their second when Workman turned his maker inside out time after time before slotting the ball under the keeper.

Four minutes later Shiels side footed in a Mark Scott cross to make it three. Upperlands now threatening to run riot hit the post through Mark Scott but, however, he did score two minutes later after Workman sent him in on goal with a neat back heel.

Rice was then unlucky to see his header cleared of the line. Scott then got his second and Upperlands fifth after a neat one two with workman.

Patterson then got his name on the score sheet after he managed to get his head onto a free kick 6-0 at half time.

Portrush got another player at this stage but by now they were playing for pride. Upperlands finished the match by going through the motions and added another three goals to their tally through Workman, Mark Scott and Rice.

Man of the match went to Gregory Scott.

Upperlands - Mitchell, McDonald, Whyte, Gordon, G.Scott, M.Scott, B.Logan, Rice, Patterson, Shiels, Workman, subs:- Evans, Mulholland, Ramsey, McKeefry.
