Cookstown III 5 Mossley II 0
Having secured a place in Junior League Two for another season, Cookstown now have their sights set firmly on glory in the McClements Cup.
On Saturday, the Third XI lined up against a Mossley team a league above them in Junior One. The fact that Cookstown II were only able to narrowly defeat the Newtownabbey men earlier in the season made it look like a next to impossible task for the Threes to proceed.
However, the Thirds team put in some of their best hockey of the season and came away with a big win.
In the first half, goals from Anderson, Morrow, Greer and Captain McGaw saw the Reds take a 4-0 lead.
The Reds defence of Nelson, Millar, Hagan and Thom - plus the outstanding display from goalkeeper Henry - meant that the Reds kept a clean sheet to the half.
With some reinforcing words at half time from the experienced trio of Hagan, McGaw and Millar, Cookstown were able to build on the first half lead to finish 5-0 winners in a game where the Reds started as severe underdogs.
This was a superb team display.
Cookstown III: Henry, Thom, Millar, Hagan, Nelson, Morrow, Donaldson, Greer, McAllan, Smyth, McGaw (c), Sloan, Anderson
