The 2010 US Open champion had his name engraved on the long-established Strabane trophy way back in 1999 as a fresh-faced 19-year-old, shortly before turning professional.

Dungannon member Jack Madden, five years McDowell’s junior, created history by capturing the prestigious silverware at the course where Jack’s grandparents, Isobel and Danny Duffy, were both past captains.

Jack is tutored by his uncle Seamus Duffy, the Clady man who is a former Strabane member and Ulster Boys coach - and also coaches former British Open champion Darren Clarke.
