A Dungannon music teacher is hoping to achieve her dream and record her debut with a little help from the general public.
Mairéad Duffy, Head of Music at St Patrick’s Academy, Dungannon recently released her debut single “Little Bridge” to rave reviews and is now hoping through her ‘Fund It’ project that she can achieve her dream of recording her debut EP.
The Galway girl, now living in Coalisland, Co Tyrone, Mairead has been described as ‘a fresh, contemporary sound on the music scene.’
Speaking to the TIMES about her project and love for music Mairéad said: “I have always had a desire to write my own material but I suppose up until now I lacked the confidence to actually commit to it wholeheartedly. “Everyday I endeavour to inspire students in their music making and I have realised that I am now ready to share what I have inside me too!”
Mairead is using the website ‘FundIt’ to raise the necessary funds for her debut EP. She has already managed to achieve around 70% of her target to date but needs a little more help to get it across the line.
The project offers rewards for each person who donates and closes on Wednesday 9th July. If the target isn’t reached by that date the project fails.
Mairéad said: “With your help I hope to record and produce my debut EP over the summer months. I have one track recorded (‘Little Bridge’-check it out!) and I have a bucketful of songs ready for the studio. I have tried to create rewards that I would like to buy!
“This project is an adventure to be shared and I want to include my funders and fans on this journey with me. With everything crossed, and EP in hand, I want to get on the road with my music…in an ideal world, an October/November tour throughout Ireland.”
Mairéad is performing at Tanglewood Music Festival at Narrow Water Castle on Fri. 4th July. She will be on stage in the Gramophone Tent at 8:10pm.
