Cookstown girl Alicia McVeigh is celebrating after scooping a top award for her exceptional creative skills at the recent Shaz makeup Awards.
The Shaz awards, organised by professional make up artist and businesswoman Ciara Daly are Northern Ireland’s leading industry awards and this year marks their fifth consecutive year of awarding talent in this creative industry.
The awards took place last week in Belfast to a packed out audience as nine awards were given out to students who have passed through Ciara’s academy and young creatives hoping to carve out a career in the industry such as Alicia.
Speaking at the awards bash Ciara said, “Each year I’m blown away by our students’ skills and talent. Alicia showed real creativity with her make up application and blew the judges away with her masterpiece on the night and I know she is a rising star of the future.
“It really is such a pleasure to award my students for their determination and talent. I’m already looking forward to next year’s awards!”
She continued: “I have been inspired over the years by so many of my students who have gone through difficult times and instead of letting it get the better of them, they’ve put their energy into learning a new skill in make up artistry and turning it into a real positive.
“I think it’s really important to recognise that and to incentivise the students with these awards.”
