Council praise work of Aware Defeat Depression
The meeting heard that one in four people in Northern Ireland will suffer with depression at some time in their lives.
Speaking about his experiences, former Mayor, Independent councillor David Harding described the matter as a ‘difficult subject’ but added ‘it’s part of everyday life’.

Hide AdPraising the work of the charity, he said: “What you are doing is essential work. It is difficult to access services when you need them. I would invite you to back to work with our staff at Causeway Coast and Glens Council.”
Members were told about the charity’s support group in Coleraine and how it had ‘reached out’ to over 140 people in the past year. Mayor, councillor George Duddy thanked councillor Harding for his ‘personal insight’ and Ms Sloan for the presentation. SDLP councillor Stephanie Quigley added that she knew people who had benefited from the local group.
