Ahoghill poised for International ‘In Bloom’ success at Canadian event
A delegation will be representing the borough in Canada at the Communities in Bloom competition presentations on Saturday.
The finals – in the City of Kamloops, British Columbia on October 3 - are the culmination of months of work by Ahoghill in Bloom and Glenarm in Bloom volunteers. They planted displays, arranged hanging baskets and village clean-ups in advance of the visit by Canadian judges from the international Communities in Bloom competition over the summer.

Hide AdMayor, Councillor Billy Ashe says: “Communities in Bloom’s aim is to foster civic pride, environmental responsibility and beautification.
“We are therefore already ‘winners’ thanks to the Ahoghill and Glenarm volunteers - in conjunction with Council staff - creating civic pride, community involvement and the beautification of two already stunning villages.
“That said, I would still wish our representatives Councillor Andrew Wilson and Derek McKay of the Ahoghill in Bloom group good luck and sincerely hope Ahoghill and Glenarm will do us proud in the coming finals.”
As well as facilitating the preparations, Mid and East Antrim Borough Council hosted a reception in the Mayor’s Parlour and also took the Communities In Bloom judges on tours of the borough.
These included a visit to the The Gobbins, Glenarm Castle, Arthur’s Cottage, Cullybackey and Gracehill.
