Hit and run driver in court
Paul John Doherty, of Ballynahone, was charged with causing grievous bodily injury through dangerous driving, failing to stop, report and remain at the scene of an accident, driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, dangerous driving and failing to stop for a police officer.
The court heard how the charges arose after an incident at Benone Beach in which a woman and child were injured.

Hide AdAt the time of the court appearance it was understood the mother and daughter were still in Altnagelvin Hospital. The woman had been treated for bruising and cuts, while her daughter was treated for bruising and a fractured collarbone.
Deputy district judge Terence Dunlop, presiding, remanded Doherty on his own bail of £500, with one surety of £1,000, to a court sitting on August 19. Doherty was also ordered to report to Strand Road police station in Londonderry daily. He was also ordered not to drive and not to consume alcohol or take non-prescription drugs.
Doherty was also ordered not to contact any police witnesses.
