Museums board role for steam train enthusiast

A member of the Whitehead-based Railway Preservation Society of Ireland has been reappointed to the board of the Northern Ireland Museums Council.

Robin Morton will serve as director with NIMC, which supports local museums in maintaining and improving their standards of collections care and public service, for a further three-year term.

A newspaper journalist for 38 years before taking early retirement in 2009, Mr Morton brings communication skills and experience to the body.

Acting in a freelance capacity, he is Ireland correspondent of Steam Railway magazine. He is the congregational secretary of May Street Presbyterian Church in Belfast and is a board member of the Northern Ireland Community Relations Council.

NIMC members receive no remuneration and receive expenses only.
