Billy produces above-par display to win 19th hole competition at Galgorm

At the halfway stage in the 19th Hole Trophy v Par Competition played at Galgorm Castle Golf Club four players were tied for the lead.

They were Billy Cull (8), Adam Martin (16), Vincent Miskelly (5) and Thomas McNeill (10) who were three up, while Michael Brown (10) was 2 up followed by Patrick Bamber (4) and Paul Sittlington (9) who were 1 up.

Approaching Beechers Bamber who was having a good run of three pars and two birdies was 5 up and leading from Cull, Martin, McNeill and Brown who were 4 up. Miskelly and Sittlington were 2 up. Cull gained shots to par at the Grove and the Lowlands and came home 6 up to win Overall from A.Martin (Overall Runner-Up) who finished 5 up. Bamber and Miskelly finished 3 up and with a better back nine Bamber won Division 1 with Miskelly second. McNeill, Brown and Sittlington were 2 up at the finish and with a better back nine Sittlington came third.

In Division 2 at the turn Chris Djorjani (11) and Keith Clements (11) were 1 up to par and leading by one from Gary Crabbe (13) and Shawn Pedlow (13) who were all square. Through The Maple the players’ positions had changed with Crabbe and Pedlow 2 up and leading from Djorjani and Clements who were 1 up. Up the Grove Pedlow who had gained two to par through fourteen and fifteen was now 4 up and leading Crabbe who was 2 up, followed by Djorjani and Clements 1 up. Pedlow double bogeyed the Lowlands and bogeyed the last to finish 2 up and was joined by Djorjani and Clements who gained shots at the Lowlands. However Crabbe parred the Lowlands to go 3 up and held on with a par at 18 to win by one. Pedlow with a better back nine took second place with Djorjani third.

After the front nine in Division 3 David McIlroy (16) and Michael Burton (18) were 1 down to par and leading David Brown (16), Des Cousley (18) and Brian Watt (19) who were 2 down. John Caulfield (19) was a further hole down. Through The Maple McIlroy, Burton and Brown were all square and leading from Watt and Caulfield who were 1 down with Cousley 2 down. In a very close and exciting finish Brown parred Beechers to go 1 up and held on over the closing three holes to win 1 up from Burton, McIlroy, Watt, Cousley and Caulfield who all finished all square. Caulfield with a better back nine took second place with Cousley third.

Turning for home in Division 4 Michael Simpson (21) was 3 up and leading from Kevin Duffin (20) 2 up followed by Tony Quinn (20) 1 up and James Campbell all square. With three holes left to play Duffin and Simpson were 2 up. Duffin after parring Beechers to go 3 up double bogeyed the Grove and ‘dinged’ the Lowlands and finished 1 up. Simpson double bogeyed the Lowlands and finished level with Duffin who took first place with a better back nine. Quinn and Campbell finished 1 down and with a better back nine third went to Campbell.

Steven Penney (1) won the Gross 1 up with Amarnath Dan (23) (all square) winning the Seniors with a better back nine.
