Autumn walks festival is planned

LARNE has been identified as the perfect location for a weekend walking festival later this year.

The local council has secured funding for the initiative, which it is hoped will encourage serious walkers to stay in the borough.

The idea has been costed at £11,700 including employing a walking co-ordinator, guides, transport, insurance and promotion. An offer of 75 per cent grant has been received from the Rural Development Fund.

Early proposals for routes range from a family-themed walk in Larne itself to a moderate guided walk along the Coast Road as far as Carnfunnock, or further to Carnlough.

No date has been set, but it is anticipated that the walking festival could take place this autumn.
