Gallery: Wesleyan School of Music in Magherafelt
Music tuition in Piano, Theory of Music, Organ and Violin continues to flourish in The Wesleyan Music Centre based at the Methodist, Magherafelt.
This year the school welcomes Rev June Parke B.Th., Minister of the Church and Mrs Sylvia McMenemy AGSM as special guests. Sylvia is well known as past Head of Music at The Rainey and Rev June is Minister of South Derry Circuit.
The outstanding success this year has been Cillian Donaghy gaining an A.T.C.L. in Piano Performance. Cillian has been a pupil of Fred Dunlop from his early beginnings as a student.
Declan Murray, age 11, was the top Young Player of the Year scoring a distinction at Grade V Piano with 92%. Also gaining 99% in Grade II Theory. This remains a remarkable achievement. Bernadette Donnelly, a mature student, wrote a Merit in Grade VI Theory and a Distinction in Grade VII Theory.
Results this year have held at an overall pass rate of 93%. Examinations were taken by 101 students and this result reflects the determination of the teachers involved.
Wesleyan Music is a result driven school and only success by examination reflects progress is its policy. It is gratifying to report that 65% of these passes were achieved at the highest pass band of Distinction and Merit.
The school encourages participation in musical activity outside the examination room. Lesley Henry and Cillian Donaghy will conduct workshops in Musical Theatre during July, with a concert to follow in Maghera on Saturday 26th July at 7.45 pm.
