Popular talks and panto time!

In his latest Talks Series, popular local historian S Alex Blair has been focusing on the lives and achievements of local people who emigrated to Canada, Australia and New Zealand and looking at the impact they made on their adopted lands.

In this final talk in the series, on Wednesday 25 November, Mr Blair will be going “Across the Sea to New Zealand”.

Ulster has produced two New Zealand Prime Ministers – John Balance from Glenavy and William Ferguson Massey from Limavady and this evening Mr Blair will look at their contrasting careers and the great impact they made in their adopted land.

He will also look at the life of Robert Hannah, a Ballymoney man whose shoes became known across the country with a shop in every town and shoe factories employing hundreds of people.

It is said that one in ten of New Zealand’s population has Irish ancestry and nearly half of them can trace that ancestry to Ulster.

These close links to New Zealand and many other personalities who emigrated from Ulster, will be highlighted in what promises to be a fascinating and entertaining talk. Organised as part of Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council’s Cultural Programme, “Across the Sea to New Zealand” begins at 8pm in Ballymoney Town Hall and admission is £2.

It’s panto time again and on Tuesday 1 & Wednesday 2 December the UK’s fastest growing theatre producers, The Panto Company return to Ballymoney Town Hall with their hit show Sleeping Beauty – a Christmas classic packed with music, dance and panto fun!
