Watertop opens for Easter

AFTER a period of closure at Easter, Watertop farm is this year opening for Easter Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Terry McBride, owner of the farm: "We have always remained open for caravans and camping but have not been open for day visitors and activities. However, we are constantly been approached to open for this traditional holiday, so we decided to give it a go this year.

"We are also keen to support Ballycastle Chamber of Commerce, who this year are placing a great deal of emphasis on promoting tourisim in the area. As one of the major tourist attractions in this area, hopefully we can encourage visitors to come and visit the farm and in so doing there may well be a spin off in the local trading community. Our Camping and Caravanning has always helped to boost the local economy in the past and we would hope to capitalise on this.

"Most of the normal activities will be available including the very popular Quad Train, Pedal Go-Karts, Boating, Assault course, Pony rides, Paddiwagon etc. The Lakeside Tea Room will as usual provide tasty hot food whatever the weather. The only activity not available will be Pony Trekking.

"Over the course of the 3 days, a series of Egg rolling competitions will take place. Don't worry if you don't have a hard boiled egg to roll, we will have lots boiled and ready! All proceeds from the sale of eggs will go to local charity and there will be lots of prizes to be won. Also over the 3 day period (if we have time!) we hope to give guided tours around the sheds explaining what we do and what is happening in the sheds.

"Rather than the usual array of small animals that are normally on display, at this time of the year lambing is in full swing and, as watertop is a commercial family hill farm, the sheep take precedence over all other animals! Every available shed is taken over by lambs and sheep at all stages of giving birth or recuperating!"

So get yourself along to Watertop this Easter and experience at first hand what this busy family farm is like in the spring season. Who knows you may even get to see lambs being born or suckling their mothers.
