Cookstown and Magherafelt among the hardest hit Covid-19 areas

Cookstown and Magherafelt postcodes are among the top 15 hardest hit Covid-19 areas in Northern Ireland in the past week.

The Department of Health has issued an interactive postal district map showing the number of people in different areas who have tested positive after becoming infected with coronavirus.

Postcode BT80 (Cookstown) is in fourth place with 112 postive cases - 457.0 per 100K, and BT45 (Magherafelt) is sixth with 103 positive cases - 277.4 per 100K.

Fifty-one people in the Mid Ulster District Council area have now sadly died from Covid-19 since March.

Meanwhile, the latest figures from the PSNI show that 70 community restorative notices have been issued in the district from March until midnight on Sunday.

Forty-four fixed penalty notices have been handed to people over the age of 18 found to have breached Covid-19 restrictions.

A total of 20 fines have been issued to licensed premises or for restriction of gatherings in a private dwelling, and two to individuals for failing to self-isolate.

The PSNI said they would continue to "flex its resources to meet policing demand" across Northern Ireland as part of their ongoing commitment to keeping people safe.

They said they have currently 561 officers and members of staff Covid absent - 477 are self-isolating.
