In a Facebook post, the local unit said: “If any local business has PPE they are not currently using (suits, gloves, masks, visors etc) that they would like to donate, this would be put to good use by our unit, who are currently assisting Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and the NHS with their workload.”

A number of other local groups have already donated PPE to NHS staff, including St Killian’s College in Carnlough.

The equipment, including gloves and goggles, was due to be delivered to the Northern Health and Social Care Trust’s community midwives this week, according to the school.

Meanwhile, three Covid-19 centres are to open in the Northern Trust area in response to the coronavirus crisis, which is expected to peak around mid-May.

The new centres will be in Antrim, Ballymena and Coleraine.

The health trust says these will not be testing facilities and will only be for patients who are “very unwell, are suspected of having Covid-19 and require medical attention”.
