Guided walks will help you discover the beauty of the Sperrin mountains

Launched by Mid Ulster District Council the walks will be led by experienced hill walking guides Brendan Adams of Broagh Tours and Ita McCrory.

The series of monthly guided walks, starting this Sunday with The Carntogher Way, takes in some of the most picturesque and rugged scenery of one of our less explored mountain ranges.

Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Cathal Mallaghan gave his stamp of approval to the new guided walks, saying: “Walking can provide many physical and mental well-being benefits and the new series of guided walks that are on offer are designed to make the most of the great outdoors that is in fact right on our doorstep.

“The series, operating within Covid-19 secure protocols, will reveal the hidden gems studded throughout The Sperrins that are available, providing an opportunity for visitors to discover somewhere new, and for local residents to perhaps find a new, elevated perspective of their home.”

Carntogher Sinn Féin representative Councillor Córa Corry said: “I am delighted to support the development and promotion of walking routes throughout the district, and promotional campaigns on existing walks.

“Events will begin with the Mid Ulster Walking and Hillwalking Festivals programme of five guided walks throughout autumn and winter, the first walk will take place this Sunday walking The Carntogher Way.

She said: “Many people have renewed their enjoyment for walking during the Covid-19 restrictions.

“Within our District Council area there is so much on offer with our spectacular Sperrin Mountains, forests and other stunning settings.

“I hope that people will take this opportunity to enjoy guided walking in the area and to visit some of the natural beauty that Mid Ulster has on offer, places are limited and booking is essential as per Covid-19 guidelines.”

The series continues in October at Moydamlaght Forest and Bohilbreaga, moving to Slieve Gallion in November to see out 2020, Crockmore and Crockbrack in January and Knockmany Forest in February of 2021. Participation is limited to 15 people per walk, at £10 per person per walk.
