Inaugural Pigeon Field Music and Film Festival 2011

The inaugural Pigeon Field Music and Film Festival takes place on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th August at Leslie Hill Estate in Ballymoney.

It combines great live music with screenings of award-winning short films, including a world premiere, as well as a competition for the best two minute film.

Grainne Duffy, King King, Swanee River, Paddy Nash and the Happy Enchiladas, Antony Toner and local bands Picture the Sound and Sheelin are just a few of the gems in the musical line up.

It’s a rare mix of Indie Rock, Blues and Country bands, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy. “We have been lucky enough to secure some of the best and most exciting bands working in Northern Ireland and further afield available” says John Leslie, Festival Director.

Those involved in the multi-award winning feature film “Cup Cake” will be pleased to note that the feature will be screened on the Saturday, so they will have a chance to relive their starring moment.

“We could not have made this feature film without the goodwill and talent of our extras and so it is a great opportunity for us to say, thanks again to you all” says Cup Cake Director, Colin McIvor.

In addition, there is the World Premiere of ‘Dave and David’ by award winning Belfast film-maker - Nigel Bristow.

The TWO MINUTE MAX film competition is sponsored by Ballymoney Borough Council and there have been quite a number of entries to date.

John Leslie, Festival Director says: “This is an innovative and highly exciting event and one of its kind in Northern Ireland.

“A great mix of music and film with the added benefit of being set on a beautiful estate.

“Come and join us in North Antrim where the welcome is warm, the food is good and the location is unrivalled anywhere in Northern Ireland.”

Those wishing to camp on Friday night and who have a Saturday ticket will be treated to Friday evening entertainment at the woodland acoustic stage.

BBQ and bands including Sheelin and The Hard Chargers followed by short films Six Shooter and the ghostly The Ten Steps will be followed by a screening of the chilling Blair Witch Project.

Further film screens will be located in the Cafe/ Dutch Barn and Bell Barn in the farm yard on Saturday. The short film makers will delight and surprise everyone that has not has not seen films in this format.

Come to Pigeon Field 2011 and support local bands and film makers in the beautiful surroundings of Leslie Hill Estate.

There will be a variety of food stalls and a beer tent run by Lavery’s Bar, Belfast. Tickets are on sale at Lavery’s Bar Belfast and Surf Mountain Belfast and on the internet via wegottickets.com. Lavery’s are providing buses from Belfast to the event so transport is not a problem.

The Festival is looking for volunteers to help with traffic stewarding, site facilities and duties around the arena from the local area so if you are interested in music; film and fun, why not volunteer for your chance to be part of this innovative festival?
