Retired health workers enjoy Norma’s craft demonstration

THE Causeway Branch of Health and Social Care Retirement Fellowship Northern Ireland, recommenced last Wednesday with an inspiring demonstration of crafts.

Chairperson Mrs Kathleen Presha warmly welcomed the guest speaker Mrs Norma Lockington.

Mrs Lockington spoke of her long interest in crafts. She brought along an amazing variety of crafts and explained how some of them are made.

Mrs Lockington showed examples of how the hexagonal pieces of material used in patchwork quilting can be adapted to make coasters, table mats or table runners. She demonstrated how although from one template, cushion covers could be made to look quite different, just by changing the colour of the sewing thread or the material pattern.

After seeing her selection of cuddly animals, socks will never be looked at in the same way again!

Mrs Lockington encouraged the group to have a go at a craft, reminding them “it is never too late to try something new.” An opportunity was given to purchase items from the crafts on display, the proceeds going towards ‘Mullingar Presbyterian New Church Build’.

A very enjoyable afternoon was rounded off with the traditional cuppa, before the enthused members headed home with their artistic juices flowing.
