Seamus Heaney tribute night sold out in Tyrone

Strule Arts Centre near Omagh is hosting a celebration evening of Seamus Heaney.

Throughout the evening on Thursday, February 27, a variety of individuals will recite their favourite Heaney poem including the Chair of Omagh District Council, Cllr Martin McColgan, BBC NI Journalist Louise Cullen, Tyrone sports star, Joe McMahon, sports journalist Paddy Hunter.

The event will alsom include recitals from pupils of local schools including Omagh High School, Omagh Academy, Loreto Convent and Christian Brothers, members of Open Door Poetry and Frank McCanny from Omagh Players.

Heaney’s love for music will also be reflected with traditional and folk music performances by the Drunken Lullabies and the WELB Folk/Trad Band.

Adding a personal touch to the evening will be a close friend of Heaney’s, local man Stephen McKenna.

Strule Arts Centre is delighted to say that the event is sold out, showing the strength of admiration in the Omagh community for the great, late Seamus Heaney.
