Stand up comedy competition at Belfast’s funniest festival

Well now budding comics in Northern Ireland have a chance to enter a prestigious stand up competition as part of Belfast Comedy Festival.

The competition is open to all types of comedy performers (e.g. solo, double act, sketch group, cabaret etc.) – so come along to participate and see the next big comedy stars on 2 October in the Black Box, Belfast, hosted by leading UK comic -Tiernan Douieb.

The Hobgoblin Comedy Award, sponsored by the iconic beer brand, offers the overall winner a £2,000 cash prize as well as other rewards. The local winner will compete for a place at the UK award finals in February 2015 and can win a photo shoot and promotional video. The overall UK champion also gets guaranteed performances at comedy festivals and clubs around the UK in 2015.

To enter applicants need to upload a video clip. There is no restriction on how much experience entrants must or must not have.

Festival Director, Peter O’Neill, said: “We’re delighted to offer this outstanding opportunity to new and recently established comic performers as part of our festival. We are keen to support and nurture new talent and this competition offers a great chance for budding comics to get a start in the comedy industry”.

He also noted that many local performers are showcased in the festival taking place during 24 September – 5 October in over 20 venues across the city which will appeal to audiences of all ages with a programme that presents great value in these strained economic times.
