10th anniversary van pull celebrates £40,000 milestone

Now in it’s 10th year, organisers are hoping the local community will come out in force to help celebrate the milestone in style!

Top of the agenda is the street collection which will be held on Thursday, September 8 and van pull which will take place at 2pm the next day (Friday, September 9).

The route for the van pull will leave the sorting office at 2pm on the Friday and take in the main thoroughfares in the town with up to 20 posties participating as well as local celebrities.

Traditionally, the public respond well to the postie volunteers whose efforts in the last decade has raised a staggering £40,000 for Cancer Research NI.

Local man, Mervyn Ferris, is delighted with the fact that his charity will benefit again this year and has urged people to respond generously.

“This is an event which means a great deal to us and we know that the boys will do well,” Mr. Ferris said.

Ballymoney postie, Adrian Nicholl, organiser of the event explained: “The van pull is an important part of our charity work and since it’s going to a very worthy cause, we are confident of raising several thousand pounds.

“The workforce in Ballymoney are certainly geared up for the two days and we hope to have a great deal of fun.

“Next Thursday will be the street collection and then the van pull will be on Friday.

“Last year we collected £3,200 which was great and brought our total fundraising for Cancer Research over the last nine years to a massive - £40,000!

“However we are hoping this year everyone will dig even deeper especially because it’s our 10th anniversary.

“A few personalities will be helping us out over the two days and we are calling on everyone to come out, help us and support us.”
