2016 date for railway upgrade

The delayed signalling upgrade on the Coleraine to Londonderry railway line will not be completed until the end of 2016, unless opportunities can be found to bring the date forward, said the DRD Minister.

The Minister responsible for Transport, Danny Kennedy, had been responding to a query from East Londonderry MLA George Robinson.

MrRobinson asked the Minister for Regional Development to outline the timeframe to complete the delayed signalling upgrade on the Coleraine to Londonderry railway line.

The Department for Regional Development Minister replied: “You will be aware of my disappointment that Phase 2 of the Coleraine to Londonderry has been delayed. This resulted from difficulties that arose during the procurement process. Translink has commenced a new procurement strategy and currently estimates that Phase 2 will be completed by the end of 2016. However, my officials will work closely with Translink in order to identify any and all opportunities to bring this date forward.”
