21st birthday for Ballycastle branch of Probus Club

Plans are well advanced for Ballycastle and District Probus Club members to mark the 21st anniversary of its formation.

Under the expert guidance of Des Andrews a celebratory dinner with suitable menu and accompanying entertainment is planned.

Members continue to enjoy the contributions of excellent speakers at their weekly meetings in Ballycastle Golf Club. Frank Rogers, a recent president of the club, recently completed the physically demanding trek, on the Inca Trail in Peru, to Machu Picchu. His superbly illustrated talk of this adventure, accompanied by his son, demonstrated a fitness which most members could only dream of.

Sam Moore from Ballymoney gave a comprehensive account of his education and working life as an inventive agricultural engineer and successful entrepreneur. His uni-drill implement has solved problems throughout the world and from sugar cane fields to the hallowed turf of St Andrews.

Sentry Hill House in Carnmoney, the former home of the McKinney family until purchased by Newtownabbey Borough Council in recent years, formed the basis of a fascinating talk by Wesley Bonar. The life of William Fee McKinney, a farmer, naturalist, devout Presbyterian and avid collector throughout most of the 19th century and the artifacts and archives remaining from that time, provided members with an insight into the social and working times of that era. The Club welcomed Paul McBrearty as a new member. New members and guests will be most welcome.
