8.37 per cent rates rise on the cards

MOYLE Council last night (Monday) heard that as it stands there will be a rates rise this year of at least 8.37 per cent.

Further discussions have still to take place before the final figure is agreed upon.

But Glens Sinn Fein councillor Paudie McShane (right) expressed concern at the lack of money being spent on projects in the Glens area.

And he hoped that other Glens councillors will yet lend support to calls for schemes proposed by him including refurbishment of a play park at Turnarobert Park, Armoy.

He said he had nothing against schemes for other areas but wants to see the Glens getting projects

Meanwhile, schemes already agreed by councillors are tourism projects at Ballintoy Harbour, Ballycastle Seafront, Ballycastle Harbour Terminal, Rathlin Harbour and Coolranny near Torr.

And they agreed to set aside 400,000 to redevelop Bushmills Library as a Tourist Information Centre and 150,000 on changing rooms in Bushmills.

Dredging work will also be carried out at Ballycastle and Rathlin Harbours at a total cost of 70,000.

10,000 will be set aside for Christmas Lights in Ballycastle and other parts of the district.
