Banbridge child sex offender facing trial

A Banbridge child sex offender is to face trail after allegations that he was seen at the town’s leisure centre and a school.

Robert McComb, Daisy Hill Court, Banbridge, appeared last Thursday at a preliminary enquiry at Newry courthouse

The 72-year-old who is the subject of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order has been returned to Newry Crown Court on alleged breaches of that order. McComb, faces two charges of having unsupervised contact with children, which he is prohibited from under the SOPO, on September 12 last year at Newry Street, Banbridge, and on October 6 at Milestone Supermarket, Rathfriland.

McComb also faces four charges of being in a child centred location.

These incidents are alleged to have happened at Banbridge Leisure Centre on September 18 last year and September 29, and at Assumption Grammar School, Ballynahinch on October 11 and October 18. McComb was remanded on his own bail of £750 to appear for arraignment at Newry Crown Court on June 9.
