Former Derry star and GAA pundit Joe Brolly has been included in a betting shortlist for the next President of Ireland.
Boyle Sports say that after numerous bets across the country on Wednesday morning, including a bet of €200 at 16/1,they have had to slash the odds of Joe Brolly succeeding Michael D Higgins.
“The controversial Sunday Game GAA pundit is now priced at 10/1 to make Áras An Uachtaráin his new home after Michael D Higgins’ term ends,” said Boyle Sports.
“RTÉ presenter Miriam O’Callaghan currently heads the betting at 9/2 with MEP Mairead McGuinness next in the betting at 11/2.”
Liam Glynn, BoyleSports’ spokesperson added: “We literally hadn’t opened up our doors on Wednesday morning and the phones started to ring in Head Office with numerous bets being placed on Joe Brolly to become the next President Of Ireland.”
He added: “Our traders have had no choice but to clip the price into 10/1 as a result of what is a very unusual gamble at this time of the year with no Presidential Election scheduled. However we have to be cautious and believe that someone may well know a little bit more than we do.”
