Boiler scheme still available

A total of 137 homeowners in the Larne area have replaced boilers through the Boiler Replacement Scheme in the past year.

And the Housing Executive is encouraging more householders to apply to the scheme before it comes to an end in March, 2015.

Ron Mitchell, the Housing Executive’s north east grants manager, said: “The DSD’s Boiler Replacement Scheme has been very successful in helping over 137 homeowners in Larne in the last year to replace inefficient boilers and providing households with increased fuel efficiency.

“We would encourage anyone else who thinks they may be eligible to apply by the end of December, 2014 to ensure the work is completed by March 31.

“Across Northern Ireland, over 15,800 homeowners have benefited.

“The scheme offers owner occupiers a grant of up to £1,000 to replace an inefficient boiler and is available to those who earn less than £40,000 a year with an inefficient boiler of at least 15 years and is dependent on total gross income.

“Replacing an old, inefficent boiler with a new condensing boiler in an average three-bedroom semi-detached house can have a potential saving of between £300 and £350 per year.

“In these difficult financial times, savings such as these can make a real difference to the lives of those who the scheme is targeted at.”
