Cathal Mallaghan replaces Linda Dillon as chair of Mid Ulster council

Sinn Fein's Cathal Mallaghan will be taking on the role of interim chair of Mid Ulster Council, as Linda Dillon heads to Stormont to start work as a MLA.

Mallaghan, who was chair in the year the three legacy councils merged to create one Mid Ulster council, will be in the role until the council’s Annual General Meeting at the beginning of June.

The Pomeroy man, said: “I’m glad to have the opportunity to lead Mid Ulster council after doing it for the first time last year.

“There’s lots of fantastic events coming up with the launch of the Heaney Centre and Tullaghoge Fort.”

He went on to say, that in his first role as chair this morning he welcomed author Dan Freeman at Ranfurly House, as part of a series events to encourage children to use their imaginations in the run up to the launch of Seamus Heaney’s Homeplace in Bellaghy.
