Chairman steps downafter 20 years' service

Islandmagee Community Development Association has paid tribute to its outgoing chairman after almost 20 years in the post.

Millbay man Robin McIlwain was given a presentation to mark the outstanding service to the group.

There were also plaudits for Frank Graham who stood down as treasurer after seven years in office.

The annual meeting was held in the Gobbins Community Centre and resulted in 12 people being elected onto the committee.

The new committee has now met to elect its officers for the year ahead.

The AGM heard from Catherine Black, Community Planning & Community Development Manager of the Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, and consultant Fergal O’Donnell, who handed over the new Area plan to the group which he had been engaged on as a consultant.

Local councillors Robert Logan, Mark McKinty, Andy Wilson, Rev. Paul Reid and Gregg McKeen were also present at the annual meeting.

Following the meeting, the committee has now elected Eric Bailey as the new chairman and he will serve for up to three years as part of new arrangements in the group’s constitution.

Mr. Bailey will have a team comprising of Stephen Caldwell (Vice Chairman), Julie McFarland (Secretary) and Gary Stanbridge (Hon. Treasurer), supported by the other committee members. The group is now planning a summer fun day at Portmuck.
